Digital PAX – Retail Innovation

Small-format store constraints requiring a bridge between physical inventory limits and digital product exploration.

Situation

A new small-format store opened by IKEA in Blue City Shopping Center had limited showroom space, making it impossible to physically present the full range of configurations available in the PAX wardrobe system.

Task

The challenge was to enable customers to explore and configure PAX wardrobes despite the limited retail space, while maintaining an engaging in-store experience.

Action

We developed an interactive concept called Digital PAX, combining a touchscreen interface with a high-power projection system. Customers could browse and modify wardrobe configurations on the touch interface and see their selection projected in real scale on a wall, allowing them to stand next to the wardrobe and experience it. The solution required building a custom app integrated with IKEA product catalogue data.

Result

The installation enabled customers to explore the full wardrobe range despite spatial limitations, effectively bridging digital browsing with a physical retail experience. The concept proved successful and was later reused in other IKEA stores facing similar space constraints.
